What is the Digital Nomad Visa?
The Digital Nomad Visa allows non-EU citizens to legally reside in Spain while working remotely for companies located outside the country. It was created in 2023 as part of the Spanish Startup Law, with the aim of attracting international talent, especially in the tech and digital sectors.

Who is it for?
This visa is intended for remote professionals such as:
- Employees working remotely for foreign companies (international teleworking).
- Freelancers providing services to companies or clients located outside Spain.
- Digital entrepreneurs running online businesses based in Spain with international operations.
Applicants may also include their spouse and children as dependent family members.
Benefits of the Digital Nomad Visa
- Legal residence in Spain for up to 1 year (if applying from abroad) or up to 3 years (if applying from within Spain).
- Renewable up to a maximum of 5 years.
- Access to public healthcare via Social Security registration, or private healthcare coverage.
- Free movement within the Schengen Area.
- Optional advantageous tax regime under the Beckham Law (expat regime).
- Possibility of applying for permanent residency after 5 years.
- Eligibility for family reunification and benefits for accompanying relatives.
Main Requirements
- Proof of at least 3 months of prior professional or employment relationship with the foreign company or clients.
- Employment contract or evidence of freelance work for non-Spanish companies/clients.
- Hiring company must have at least 1 year of established activity.
- Demonstrate stable monthly income (approx. €2,520 in 2025, equal to 200% of Spain’s minimum wage).
- Private health insurance with full coverage in Spain.
- No criminal record in the last 5 years.
- University degree or at least 3 years of proven work experience in the relevant sector.
